Lenovo is planning to outsource its entire consumer-based IdeaPad notebook manufacturing to Taiwan notebook makers, according to industry sources.
Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics and Wistron are expected to benefit from the outsourcing.
In addition to initial orders for the announced Y510, Y410 and U110 models, Lenovo is expected to release more orders in the second half of the year, with all future IdeaPads likely to be outsourced to the three makers. Read the rest of this entry »

Elitegroup Computer System (ECS) is believed to have received new notebook orders recently and has adjusted its notebook shipment goal in 2008 from the original 3.8 million to five million units, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.
Gigabyte Technology also said it expects to see its annual notebook shipment growth double in 2008. Market watchers predict the company’s shipment volume will be around 200,000-400,000 units, noted the paper.

The Round Rock, Texas-based company has two factories in Xiamen, a southeastern Chinese city, and a design center in Shanghai that the company says is its biggest outside the United States. Dell said the company expects its purchases of components and other products in China to rise by 27 percent this year to $23 billion.
Dell Inc., the world’s No. 2 PC maker, is developing new models aimed at Chinese and Indian consumers to drive sales in fast-growing Asian markets, CEO Michael Dell said Thursday.Personal computer makers increasingly are designing products with Chinese buyers in mind. Both Dell and China’s Lenovo Group unveiled low-cost PCs last year for rural and novice users.

Recent reports say that Dell is preparing to replace the D830 and the D630 with a new series of Latitude E laptops. The new models are E6500 with a 15.4 inch display and the E6400, a 14.1 incher. The leaked laptops are scheduled for release in June and it’s also said that these lappies will be the first to make use of Montevina / Centrino 2 machines. The rumors that Intel is going to release a low-end laptop got true and the 2go PC is going to be aimed at the educational market. The 2go sports an Intel Celeron M Processor, a 915GMS graphics chipset, 512MB of RAM with the option to upgrade to 1GB, 40GB HDD, 800×480 9-inch LCD, 802.11b/g WiFi, SD / MMC memory card reader and full option of jacks and ports.

ASUS made an official announcement about the next generation of Eee PC of which we already know that is going to feature an 8.9 inch display. What we didn’t know about it, is that the Eee PC is going to be a touchscreen. The 8.9 incher will be available as of May or June and will come in 8GB up to 12GB options and it will have a $500 starting price. For May, ASUS also plains to start shipping an Eee Desktop called E-DT and it will cost $200.
