Notebook vendors considering battery cells from China, says paper

Due to the current battery cell shortage, worldwide first-tier notebook vendors are thinking about adopting battery cells from China, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

Hewlett-Packard (HP) has already decided to adopt cells from China, while Asustek Computer is considering starting certification. However, even if the cells are certified successfully, adoption will not start until the second half this year, noted the paper.

Currently, notebook vendors mainly purchase their battery cells from Sanyo, Sony, Matsushita, Samsung and LG. The five makers account for around 90% of the market, added the paper.
